PCI: Open House for Water Treatment Solutions

BLUEBIRD LIFT STATION

LAGUNA BEACH, CALIFORNIA

The Challenge

The resort City of Laguna Beach was faced with complaints of hydrogen sulfide odors, rising bills from odor control chemicals and the expensive and hazardous disposal of those chemicals. They needed a cost-effective solution that fit within a small footprint and was invisible to residents and tourists.

The Project

The City elected on-site oxygen generation and the installation of an ECO2 system inside of the existing Bluebird Lift Station, providing an odor control system that is environmentally friendly and invisible to the surrounding beach community.

Results

The ECO2 system is outperforming guaranteed performance levels, reducing H2S levels from over 300 ppm to ≤2 ppm. The minimal maintenance has been absorbed into the current operations budget. An increased service life of the North Coast Interceptor pipeline is expected because of the prevention of hydrogen sulfide formation in the system. Based on their current calculations, the City of Laguna Beach expects areturn on investment of less than four years.
