Newman Lake, Washington
Newman Lake Homeowner's Association
The 1,200
Acre Newman Lage is the centerpiece of a residential
development near Spokane, Washington. The shallow
(19 ft. mean depth) lake provides local drinking water,
but is vulnerable to algae blooms, which decrease water
quality, limit fish habitats and reduce recreational
usage.
In order to avoid a capital
investment for taste and odor treatment, an ECO2 hypolimnion SuperOxygenation system with
induced horizontal flow was installed. the ECO2 system adds 3,300 pounds of oxygen per
day to a side stream of 13 MGD withdrawn from the lake's
hypolimnion layer. Effluent from the system's
oxygenation cone had a D.O. of 34 mg/L and is discharged
back into the lake through a 30 meter diffuser. The
ECO2 system has
consistently maintained oxic conditions in the lake for
the past 14 years.
